The 5 hm2 Baishanzu Forest Dynamics Plot is located in the north slope of Baishanzu peak in Baishanzu Nature Reserve, eastern China. Vegetation in the plot is subtropical evergreen broad leaved forest in middle mountains. The mean annual temperature is 12.8 , mean annual rainfall of 2341.8 mm, mean annual relative humidity is 84%, extreme low temperature -13.2 , extreme high temperature 30.1, frost-free period 187 D, and accumulated temperature greater than 10 degree 3653.3 . The rainfall is concentrated in April – May. Plot elevation varies from the lowest altitude 1470 m to the highest altitude 1593 m. The terrain slope ranges from 7.27° to 44.12 °. Soil type is yellow soil, and the pH value is between 4.1~4.8.

The plot has 30945 individuals (DHB≥1cm, according to the data of 2008 census) belonging to 38 families, 69 genera and 132 species (including infraspecific taxa, but excluding vine species). 74 species are evergreen, and 58 species are deciduous. The important value of evergreen trees is up to 84.9%, indicating that evergreen trees dominate the forest. The floristic composition of the forest is transitional between the subtropical and temperate. In the plot, there are 8 species with more than 1000 individuals, and they are the Rhododendron latoucheae (Ericaceae), Camellia cuspidate (Theaceae), Cyclobalanopsis multinervis (Fagaceae), Lithocarpus brevicaudatus (Fagaceae), Schima superba (Theaceae), Cleyera pachyphylla (Theaceae), Sycopsis sinensis (Hamamelidaceae), and Eurya rubiginosa var.attenuate (Theaceae). There are 51 rare species (density is less than 1 individual per ha), accounting for 38.6% of total species.

The largest DBH of woody plants in the plot is 80cm, and average value of DBH in the plot is 6.75cm.
