The Donlingshan plot lies within the Baihaushan National Nature Reserve to the west of Beijing city, China. The plot is considered to be typical warm deciduous broadleaf forest. There are 52,136 individual trees, belonging to 58 species, 33 genera, and 18 families. The plot's floristic composition is north temperate and the vertical structure is clearly divided in three layers: the canopy, a shrub layer, and an herb layer. Quercus wutaishanica, Betula dahurica, and Acer mono are the three most dominant species in the upper layer. There are many shade-tolerant and intermediate light-demanding species in the mid layer such as Juglans mandshurica, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, and Sorbus discolor.
