The Utah Forest Dynamics Plot is located on the north rim of Cedar Breaks, in Cedar Breaks National Monument. It lies in old-growth, high-elevation, mixed-conifer forest.  The plot has rectilinear dimensions of 540 m x 560 m, but due to the presence of the cliff, the final plot area will be 16.84 ha.  All woody stems (trees and shrubs) are mapped at dbh (1.37 m).  Canopy trees reach 25 m.   Forest composition is primarily subalpine fir (Abies bifolia), Engelman spruce (Picea engelmannii), with the five-needle pines, bristlecone (Pinus longaeva) and limber (Pinus flexilis) on exposed outcrops. The plot includes one large aspen (Populus tremuloides) clone.  There are no exotic woody species present, nor is there any indication of introduced pathogens at this time.
